The first thing: Parker's big boy room! We have decided to move Parker to a new room to avoid having to completely re-do the nursery. We still plan on sprucing up the existing nursery to make it "fresh and new" for the baby, but the furniture and wall color will stay the same.
Any ways, we are concentrating on Parker's room first for several reasons. First of all, the sooner we get it done, the sooner I can get him out of the nursery and get it organized for the new baby! Second of all, we are hoping to move most of his toys to his new room (they are stored in various places throughout the house right now). This will help us check off another major item from our list: ORGANIZE the house!
Any ways, I have spent the past week trying to nail down Parker's room. I originally purchased several fabrics to make window treatments, etc. but the more I think about it, the more I am thinking Parker needs a fun room! I LOVE the fabrics I originally chose and luckily they can be used in the nursery so I didn't waste any money! In fact, the fabric was a steal as I got A TON for $30! It should be more than enough to re-do the entire nursery!
Back to Parker's room... to make a long story short, I decided that Parker needs a boat bed. Something similar to version below:

However, if Parker needs this bed, Mom needs to find a job. I found several versions online, but they all run $1500 and up! YIKES! So I began a search for similar but cheaper beds. I found a few on craigslist (not the exact bed, but similar) but they were still around $800 and up. I just can't bring myself to spend that much on something that can't really be used in a few years once Parker and his little brother outgrow it. I also found a few cheaper new versions, but they were pretty flimsy and cheap looking. The result of several hours of surfing the web? A project! Nothing like adding a project to my mile-long honey do list, right?
Any ways, Jerod and I both decided that Parker needs as much open space in his room as possible, so we decided using our existing full size bed was out. However, we didn't want to use a small toddler size bed since company will need a place to sleep when they come to town. So we decided we needed a twin size bed with a pull out trundle so that it can sleep 2 adults fairly comfortably . We began our search and found a solid wood one on Craigslist for $50 (the same bed online is on sale for $399). Check. Maybe not the most ideal situation for guests, but at least this way they are sleeping on a real mattress!
As soon as we got the bed home, my plan for modifications began. At first I thought I could just talk Jerod into building a toy box in the pointed shape of the front of a boat that we could place at the end of the bed. But once I really started looking at it, I figured a few more steps and it might look a little more finished. I don't really expect it to look like the $1500+ versions, but for the $50 bed and the $80.15 in supplies, I am thinking I can be pretty pleased with whatever our $130 version brings!
I am now frantically searching for bedding. I know I want something with reds and navy blues, and perhaps some brown. I LOVE this Pottery Barn Kids bedding... but $200 on a quilt and sham for a toddler?! Call me cheap. I can take it. I am still considering it, but am hoping to find a far less expensive alternative. :) Either that, or reconsider the whole job thing again.

Any ways, just about everything in Parker's new room is a project of some sort! We plan on re-purposing a dresser we already have (painting and new hardware), hoping to find some sort of bookshelf or cabinet for toys, put up faux board and batten wainscoting on the walls, sew a few fabric sails, window treatments, artwork, etc. Geeze! This alone could take 10 weeks... Wish us luck! We will keep you posted as his room progresses!
