After having some anxiety about not feeling "prepared" for this baby, I signed Jerod and myself up for a "second time around" class to help calm my nerves. It worked! Yay!
When I was pregnant with Parker, we attended several preparedness classes, constantly read books and articles, researched every topic extensively, etc. But since we had been through all of that just a year and half ago, I really didn't feel like it would do us any good to do it all again. But then again, I also felt like I was unprepared doing nothing at all! The "second time around" class was perfect as it was a crash course that re-covered a broad number of topics, but just enough information to refresh us and remind of us of what we already knew. Apparently I had blocked out alot of the child birth portion, so it was a good thing that we went! Ha! The majority of the class was a roundtable discussion with the other couples so we really got to talk about what we wanted... which helped alot! We also discussed how to handle the big brother or sister when the baby arrives. Unfortunately there were no real pointers for a year and a half year old (since you can't really reason with them), so they all just wished us luck! Eeeek! That kind of scares me.
The best part is that Crestwood Hospital (where I had Parker, and where I will probably have this one) offers the classes for free! Heck of a deal considering Huntsville Hospital charges $35-$75 for their classes!
Our next big step is to decide which hospital we will deliver at this time around. There is a big debate among people in our area as to which hospital is better. I wish one was clearly better so I could just pick it and be done! However, they both have their advantages and disadvantages so it really makes it a difficult decision for someone as indecisive as me. Part of me wants to go to Huntsville because then I would really know which one I think is better, but another part of me realizes that I had a great experience at Creswtood, so why change? We have a tour of the hospitals scheduled for August, so hopefully that will help us decide!
I think deciding on the hospital and a baby name are the last two of the big decisions we need to make! Thank goodness! :)
