Major Progress in Parker's Big Boy Room!

So the two major projects in Parker's new room are coming to an end (the walls and the boat bed)! It has been a SLOW process considering most if it is has needed to be a two person job, but with Parker around only one person can work while the other person TRIES to entertain the little stinker. Unfortunately, whenever one of us in the room working, Parker wants to be in the room too... so entertaining him while one of us works is DIFFICULT to say the least! Any ways, the faux board and batten walls are almost done (just lacking a little touch up paint here and there)! The boat bed is coming along too... All that we have left is adding several pieces of trim (most of which are cut), sanding a little more, and painting. We are hoping to dump Parker off on the grandparents for a night or two this weekend so we can get it finished!

We had to take a week off of house projects because Parker and I went with Jerod (he was working) to West Palm Beach last week. However, I decided I still had to make progress in the room so I was determined to find all of the bedding for his room while we were gone!

As of last week, I was pretty sold on the Pottery Barn bedding from a few posts ago, but it has been sold out online for over 6 weeks (ever since I found it and fell in love with it)! I went to the Pottery Barn Kids in West Palm, and they told me it was only available online so I was pretty much out of luck if the website says "not available." In desperation, I even called the outlet in Atlanta (for the second time... Emily checked on it for me several weeks ago) and they did not even have it in their system, which means that if they ever get it in, it will not be for a while. So then I turned to Ebay and Craigslist (which I have checked over and over again over the past month)... NOTHING! After several days of extensive searching, I have determined that this set (in the twin size) is not for sale ANYWHERE! I am pretty sure of it.

It was a little expensive for what I wanted to spend on the bedding anyways. Even after it went on sale, it would have been around $170 with tax and shipping, and that is just for the quilt and sham... no sheets or throw pillows, etc.! I know that is not a horrible price, but I also know how rough Park is on everything and I would rather get something we can replace in a year once he destroys it!

I spent the second half of the trip searching for alternatives to the Pottery Barn quilt set, but with no success. So after ALOT of searching and finding no similar quilts that I liked or was willing to fork up the money for, I decided to just go a different route. While wandering through Ikea I found a red striped bedding (almost a ticking). I thought I could make it nautical with a few fun throw pillows... and when I went to look for the price, I realized it was only $30 for the twin duvet and sham (and I already have a duvet insert)! Sold. We bought one set and we were on our way! Then I realized I should looked around a little more for coordinating curtains, pillows, etc. So Emily graciously took me back to Ikea (we stopped and spent the night at their house in Atlanta on our way back home from the beach) because Jerod was not willing to go again! Between the two trips, we pretty much finished up the room while we were there! We found fabric for curtains, throw pillows, a quilt for the foot of his bed, a chalkboard for his room, a big paper roll of paper and the dispenser for him to draw on, hardware for some book slings I want to make, rugs, and some shelves to hang on the wall to store toys and such. It feels so good to know that I really do not have anything left to find! Let's just hope it all comes together as planned so I don't have to deal with returning items and finding replacements!

I threw the bedding on the unfinished boat bed last night... here is how it looked! Please excuse the bed.... it is still under construction but at least you can kind of see the shape.

And up close with all of the patterns....

We will also be adding some khaki fabric sails above the bed. Of course none of the pillows are sewn yet, the fabric is just wrapped around pillow inserts. Hopefully it will look a little more polished when it is done. I also didn't bother putting the insert into the duvet, or ironing it for that matter.

The bed will be painted mostly white, with a navy headboard and navy accents... so I am hoping the red pops a little more against the blue and white! (This is also not necessarily where the bed is going in the room... we have alot of furniture re-arranging in our future!)

All in all, I got all of the supplies for his room for less than the quilt and sham from Pottery Barn would have cost! Yay! Jerod is still not convinced that I needed to buy everything that I did, but I think he knows that the boys' rooms are important to me... so he did not complain too terribly much :)! All of the bedding, pillows and fabric came from Dirt Cheap (have I ever mentioned this is the best store ever?) and Ikea, and it totaled around $60 for sheets and all!

Although we were out of town for an entire week, I at least feel like we got a bunch done! It is now down to putting the darn room together so I can move on to Baby's room! The little boy will be here within 6 weeks (as of Tuesday)! We have ALOT to do in those few short weeks! :)
